I grew up in Eastern NC, Jacksonville, to be exact where I experienced Diana in 1984, Kate in 1985, Charley 1986, Arlene 1987, Allison 1995, Arthur 1996, Bertha 1996, Fran 1996, Josephine 1996, Bonnie 1998, Earl 1998, Dennis 1999.
I move to Greenville, NC for college to get some additional Hurricane experience with Floyd 1999 where it took me 9 hours to get home, which normally takes just under 2 hours, after my Dorm became an island thanks to the Dennis/Floyd rains. The next year Gordon went by to the west and shared some rain, followed by Helene. Allison in 2001, Kyle 2002, and Isabel in 2003. I graduated in 2003 for my first Duty Station which was at the Bonnet Carre Spillway just west of New Orleans, LA and yes I lived in New Orleans for Mathew 2004, Cindy 2005. I have family in Jupiter, FL where I always loved to visit and so it goes...
...While on a visit I enjoyed the company of Frances in 2004 and since flights were cheap and I didn't get enough I came back to jupiter just in time to help board up and ride out Jeanne in 2004.
Back in New Orleans I met my wife to be and moved into the 9th ward where she worked with inner city youth through Desire Street Ministries. We were to be wed in city park on October 1st and conveniently our plans took a turn. a little gust of wind from the GOM made a visit. We evacuated to florence, MS where we met 85 mph winds and torential rains. The morning after while watching the news via generator powered tv we saw our neighborhood under several feet of water and decided it was time. So we got married that day! 10 days later my job had me back in LA doing debris removal work and we were living in a hotel when Rita came to shore.
So as of December 2006 We moved to Port St. Lucie, FL were I hope I am not being followed!!!!
23 Named Storms in as many years is not a good stat unless you are a Hurricane Hunter.
Just another note- between hurricanes I have experience several droughts, Fall and Jordan Lakes in NC remained below normal pool while I worked there toward the end of college, Bonnet Carre Spillway was never opened during my tour there, and now Lake Okeechobee has not been above normal pool since my arrival here.
