Are there any HAM Radio operators here on WU?
Gustav may possibly pass over or very near the Cayman Islands. If so, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman will lose power and most likely, their cell phone repeater and tower effectively cutting off their ability for communication.
We are therefore trying to set up a HAM radio network to transfer information after the storm has passed. I know of one HAM operator on Cayman Brac and am currently waiting on his transmission frequencies.
If you or someone you know is a HAM Operator and would be willing to try to contact the Caymans and rely information to us here on WU, it would be much appreciated.
Aug. 28 Update: FREQUENCY RANGES Last night, our friend Hurricanecrab posted (see post #30) after speaking with the resident radio operator on Cayman Brac. The operator said that he will be transmitting outward on frequencies 154-166 and/or 155-164 Megahertz.
So, if any of you HAM operators out there could listen in on the those frequencies and post any information coming out of the islands, it would be greatly appreciated. The Operator on Cayman Brac will be talking to Little Cayman and Grand Cayman operators as well. Should there be an emergency event, he will broadcast as soon as possible.
It is also my understanding that if you have a shortwave radio, you should be able to tune to these frequencies and listen.
Thanks to everyone for your interest and participation.
Stay Alert, Informed and Prepared.
